need to say I am a fan of the genre and was really looking forward to this. 2nd - This show got me really upset. I felt like I am being insulted.... I get you know I will watch the show so you felt you don't need to give your 100% (well, not really but let's
pretend). But this thing is a just an utter waste of time. The screenplay is all over the place like it was written by different people who didn't talk to one another. The iron fist is a drama queen that can't stop himself from bragging how he mastered his
feelings in the monastery for 15 years, yet loses it EVERY episode.... Ho and did I mention he can't fight?! Yes. the Iron fist can't fight. He moves so awkwardly it's embarrassing to watch... I can go on about the holes in the plot and so many other annoying
EASILY AVOIDABLE flaws but I'll save myself the trouble and just give you the hard truth - Do yourself a favor and don't watch it. Particularly if you like superhero movies I thought they must be giving this a bad review for more than just the cultural appropriation.
It has to be a legitimately bad series as well. I thought I would give it a shot though because I liked Daredevil and I really liked Jessica Jones and I thought Luke Cage was okay the characters where great but the plot was as slow as molasses. I start watching
this and I watched the first 6 episodes last night and I must say this is my favorite Marvel Netflix series so far. I don't really believe in this whole cultural appropriation thing for the most part unless its something really flagrant like black face. So
I thought that in the first 6 episodes (thats what all the reviews that have come out so far are reviewing it off of, the press got the first 6 episodes) there would be something flagrant that maybe could be seen as offensive to some people. I literally found
nothing though, is a white guy not allowed to like martial arts or speak Chinese? Is that what all this outrage is about. Its so backwards, how is appreciating someone else's culture racist.
Danny Rand was a white guy in the comics, why would they make him an Asian character just to not be offensive (when it isn't offensive in the first place) not to mention there are plenty of Asian characters in the series and yes some of them do play stereotypical
roles. It is based off of a comic though, they are staying true to the comic for the most part if you want to be outraged about something than why wasn't everyone up in arms about the original comic or the fact that Netflix was making it into a series in the
first place, because no one cared until it was easy to care and be outraged.
The funny thing is, that even in the real world there are triads and yes they carry axes in some circumstances , would it have been better if these triads where cast as white guys? because somehow I feel like that might be cultural appropriation as well so
you really cant win either way. The source material gave them what it gave them and if they weren't going to stay somewhat true to it, than why even call it Ironfist and put the marvel name on it. You can be offended by just about anything if you look hard
enough.
Anyways I was expecting the actual show to be horrible and it wasn't, it is probably my favorite of the bunch so far (debatable though cause I really like Jessica Jones) the plot moves very quickly and the pacing is perfect. I thought pacing was a major issue
to varying degrees in almost all of the previous marvel Netflix shows but Ironfist nails it.
